About this project

This site is an ongoing, source-disciplined family history of the Caudill line. Its goal is simple: tell the family's story honestly, and keep the record straight as new evidence comes to light.

How we handle facts

Genealogy is full of half-remembered dates and well-meaning stories. We try to be careful about the difference between what is proven and what is remembered:

📜 Proven facts

Anything stated as fact is tied to a source — a census, a certificate, a deed, a church or military record. Sources are listed with each story.

Family tradition (unverified): stories passed down but not yet confirmed by a record are clearly labelled this way, so the difference is never lost.

Where a relationship or date is still an open question, it is presented as a hypothesis with its evidence — not as a conclusion.

Privacy of living relatives

This is a family site, so privacy comes first. Identifying details are published only for people known to be deceased (or born well over a century ago). Living relatives are not identified without their consent. If you are mentioned here and would like something changed or removed, please get in touch.

Corrections welcome

Family history is iterative. When new evidence corrects something, we add a dated Edits & Corrections note to the story rather than quietly rewriting it. If you have a record, a photograph, or a correction to share, we would love to hear from you.
